One Night in Bangkok
Bangkok airport. My father used to live here, and I took for granted that I flew here twice a year from college, returning with thai dyed sarongs, red bull tshirts, and elephant tapestries. Just smelling the fruits remind me of him, and this is the first time i've been grateful for a 5 hour layover.
I love airports- you see what's trendy at the time and you see how everone interprets it. Bootcut denims, ditressed, why do white people wear their jeans so low, and asians so high? Why do westerners wear their messenger bags and backpacks so tight, and asians so loose and low? You see a thai girl in head to toe Guess/Lacoste/Il Fornarina/Coach/Burberry who washes her face w/ whitening cream, passing by a Brit girl with a brown tan, rice paddy picker pants, red bull t-shirt in thai and a beaded cotton bag....i guess the grass is always greener.
Then you pass the odd tourist, with a broken leg or a bruised face, heading home from Phuket, and everyone has the word tsunami on their lips.
Regardless, the Bangkok is still booming and busy, and people will go on. Off to get some noodles.
